Mike Sebastian Bay: Rusticated Apple with Bamboo Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-820-0146
If this style of rustication looks familiar to you, it's probably because you're familiar with the work of Tom Eltang — specifically his signature workhorse Poker design, which is often dressed in a similarly craggy and grooved finish. When Mike Sebastian Bay was apprenticing under Tom, the elder Dane gave his blessing for Mike to use the same style of rustication in his own work, and since then, Bay has produced a number of pipes in his own stylistic realization of Eltang's rustication. Such pieces are often compact and conveniently lightweight, and this Apple rendition is no exception. Bay often puts his own spin on Eltang's rustication style, and in this piece that creativity is realized through the wavy grooves of texture that wrap the squat bowl. Two knuckles of bamboo extend the shank and inform this piece's lightness, making this a pipe that's ready for rugged everyday use and on-the-go smoking.
