Mike Sebastian Bay: Smooth Dublin with Bamboo Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-820-0158
In the years since his mentorship under Tom Eltang, Mike Bay has blossomed into one of Denmark's most esteemed and prolific young artisans. His shaping style, while influenced by Eltang, reveals Bay's own creative vision across myriad finishes and an eclectic array of accent materials. Tastefully toeing the line between classic and individual, Bay's portfolio delights with distinctive renditions of favorite shapes, each singular, captivating, and imbued with world-class engineering.
Though the Dublin is a timeless, classic shape, Mike Bay has endowed this example with a distinctie tough: Instead of the bowl's walls flaring in straight, standard lines, they curl out to further emphasize the rim and to lend the piece a strong, floral motif. This aspect is further enhanced by the rim's domed presence and its speckles of plateau. Moreover, three knuckles of bamboo continue the pipe's plant-like inclinations for a shape that combines traditional design cues and artful, organic elements alike. Lastly, the hand-cut vulcanite stem continues the bamboo's rhythm through its base, and in an appreciable touch, Bay shaped a groove in the stem to align with and continue the natural shaping of the bamboo.
