Nanna Ivarsson: Smooth Acorn with Boxwood (3415) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-361-0084

Nanna Ivarsson, though very much her own pipemaker, here wears her heritage on her sleeve, rendering a long shanked Acorn that bears no small resemblance to Lars's Acorn shapes. You'll find in it a tall and proud Acorn bowl full-cheeked at the high waistline, a strong supple taper to the heel, a pronounced transition, akin to that seen on Sixten's "Peewit", and a long, flowing shank whose stem bears a slight downturn to give the combination a slight s-curve. There are some distinct differences though; a proportionately bigger bowl, a slightly higher waist, more roundness to the rim, and a thicker shank, though the effect of the shank driving upward and outward from the transition is a trait shared by both.

The composition, like many of Nanna's unique combinations of family tradition and modern Danish design, begs to be taken as a whole, with each aspect specifically composed to highlight and play off of each other. Note how the button is the exact height of the rim, or how the bowl leans from left to right right, placing the heel nice and close to the transition, almost as gathering the visual potential energy as close as possible, pooling it at the base of the shank, and then exploding away.
