Nikolay Kozyrev: Smooth Double Calabash with Boxwood Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-773-0001
The most playful shape in our first batch of pipes from artisan Nikolay Kozyrev, this very wide, yet also very compactly arranged, wasp-waisted Calabash would stand out even if one only took its outer design into account. Making it even more unusual is the fact that it's a fully functional Calabash - as in yes that cap-shaped upper bowl does come off, and there is a condensation chamber hidden underneath it. Working that internal design into such a wide, low shape was a neat trick in itself. Even better is that Nikolay used this construction to also show off even more grain, with some very nice birdseye displayed along the lower chamber's rim, and at the underside of the cap.
And then this is the point where I realize I missed something else completely. This is in fact a Double Calabash. Along with everything mentioned above, Nikolay also placed a second condensation chamber within this design, inside the shank.
