Nikolay Kozyrev: Sandblasted Pot with Zebrawood Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-773-0026
Fitting in well to Nikolay Kozyrev's Danish-style, this piece displays a slightly tapered Pot bowl, the stummel marked by soft lines and a supple curvature through the heel and transition. For a subtle, flourishing touch, the Russian carver pinched the transition, making for a concave underside that curls symmetrically through the heel and shank end. That line is echoed, then, at the top of the shank as the end flares outward to match the lines of the stem base — further cohering the composition together. What caught my eye most, however, was the color palette: The shank end features a generous section of zebrawood, to which Nikolay has looked to inform the overall presentation, matching the dark-stained, glossy stummel with the hardwood's ebony tones for quite the formal aesthetic, yet more rustic and unique than the typical dress pipe motif of black and silver.
