Pete Prevost: Smooth Long Shank Sitter with Bakelite Tobacco Pipe

I'll admit that when I saw the thumbnail image of this pipe, I was expecting it to be something far larger. Call it conditioned expectations; I'm just used to seeing shapes like this rendered in somewhere between medium-large to just plain quite large scales. While those larger pieces make for a beautiful display of the kinds of line and grain a greatly skilled artisan can get out of a sitter like this, they aren't terribly practical for showing off. I mean, you aren't likely to just stick one in a typical pipe pouch (much less just a jacket pocket); if you want to make your friends jealous, you probably will have to invite them over.

Not so with this Pete Prevost. Pete's taken this grand sort of sitter shape, and rendered it as something as light and handy as a small Dunhill. You could take this pipe anywhere, which is to say be the recipient of envious glances anywhere.

On second thought, perhaps making a pipe like this at this kind of handy, practical scale is actually too much (ironically) of a good thing, really.
