Pete Prevost: Smooth Acorn with Bamboo and Bakelite Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-532-0033
Quite a lean and slender design from Pete Prevost, this Acorn could readily be described as a take on the old clay Cutty or Belge design, only brought to the modern stage through more stylized, organic shaping and the use of alternative mediums like bamboo and bakelite. The bowl itself sports a strong forward cant, which works beautifully with its high-set waistline, plateau-crowned rim, and soft, easy taper down to a slight spur of sorts just along the base — creating a subtle floral, budding aesthetic in profile. That theme is emphasized all the more by the slender, lengthy, five-knuckle stretch of pale bamboo and a bright, hot-pink mouthpiece of Bakelite that follows it, giving the composition at large a demi-churchwarden like appeal. As elegant and intriguing as Pete's shaping and choice of mediums are here, he's made sure to keep the briar at the forefront, showcasing the block's impressive flame grain pattern though a warm, slightly smoked walnut contrast stain. Beautiful work from Pete here.
