Pete Prevost: Sandblasted Bent Apple with Bakelite Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-532-0038
This sort of plump bent Apple shape is one we've seen from Pete Prevost before, its smooth curves and thick walls offering a comfortable feel in hand. This iteration features some seriously compact proportions, making for a pocket-friendly piece with a charmingly chubby form. Most notable here is his continued experimentation with Bakelite as an accent. It's an addition that here works well, with a pale, mint green band at the shank-end paired with a slimmer, gray-hued ring at the base of the domed stem. The pairing works well, particularly against the stem's jet-black vulcanite, and offers some cooler tones against the stummel's warm finish. His skill with sandblasting continues to impress as well, the stummel here sporting some rippling growth rings around its bowl, with blasted birdseye tight on the base. The palette, when all elements are put together, is pastoral with a touch of modern, and the piece as a whole shows the keen eye for detail that we've come to expect from Pete.
