Pete Prevost: Smooth Horn Calabash with Meerschaum and Ebonite (with Extra Briar Bowl) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-532-0047

One of the most ambitious pieces of our 2018 American Exposition, here Pete Prevost has presented us with a breathtaking Calabash rendition. Shape-wise, it calls to mind the Danish Horn, its conical disposition tapering into a compressed lenticular shank and stem combination. As for the medium, it's also horn, only in this case that of the bovine variety.

Indeed, Pete selected an especially creamy, visually interesting segment of the stuff to fashion this piece, the natural swirl of pearlescent off-white, beige, cocoa, and dark, dark brown dressing the piece magnificently. As a complement, the carver fashioned two matching, interchangeable bowls: one lined with pale-white meerschaum, the other with briar. It evokes the look of an instrument from an ornate, antique shaving kit, especially with the stark-white meerschaum set against a surrounding rim of jet-black ebonite. A dapper fellow, this is likely my personal favorite from today's batch of American Exposition pieces.
