Pete Prevost: Sandblasted Long Shank Squat Tomato Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-532-0050
In this Tomato rendition from Pete Prevost, the American carver has accentuated two aspects of the shape, namely the bowl and shank. In both he's taken their forms to the extreme, squashing the bowl and elongating the shank considerably. The result is a design that's equal parts plump and streamlined. With slightly more briar lent to the fore, the bowl poses a forward-urging disposition, while the bulging flanks offer plenty of insulation around the Group 1 sized chamber. Out back, the oval shank extends arrow straight from out of the heel and gentle transition, terminating in an abbreviated saddle stem that shows just the slightest degree of bend. Despite the bowl's squat nature, it fits firmly in hand while also remaining quite lightweight in the jaw. It's all dressed, then, in a classy, all-black color palette and glossy stain for a dressy presentation that suits beautifully the Nashville carver's expert craftsmanship and shaping.
