Pete Prevost: Partially Sandblasted Stacked Dublin Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-532-0052
This is a piece that stands out within Pete Prevost's portfolio. While the American carver has certainly fashioned his fair share of sleek, trimly shanked pipes as well as those of tall, Stack-like height, we've rarely seen those two shaping cues paired together in one piece. That said, it still maintains Pete's penchant for the Danish tradition, with this piece resembling the rakish profile and tight angles often seen in vintage Kriswill pipes. The bowl here houses just about two and a half inches of chamber depth, flaring dramatically upward from out of the diminutive, tight-knit transition. The bowl's height is further accentuated, then, by the streamlined nature of the shank and stem combination out back, and the rather slender proportions do well to keep the piece deceptively lightweight. Furthering the Danish-inspired aesthetic, it's all dressed in a dark, glossy, low-profile sandblast and smooth, contrast-stained rim, the stretched flanks of the bowl providing ample surface area on which to showcase concentric ripples of ring grain overlapped by long strands of blasted striations. A unique piece within Pete's work yet not at all unique in its expert level of craftsmanship and use of creativity.
