Pete Prevost: Sandblasted Bent Egg with Bakelite Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-532-0059

While Pete Prevost fashions a wide variety of shapes, he tends to imbue most of his designs with a lithe curvature, as is the case for this bent Egg. The tall bowl features the form's gradual taper along the flanks to the heel, but here, the heel, instead of descending below the transition, as is often the case with the shape, sweeps through the transition and carries momentum into the lengthy upturned shank and the abbreviated stem. The rearward curvature of the shank-and-stem arrangement counterbalances the bowl's forward-cant and careening momentum, creating a sense of dynamism at either end of the pipe. The overall design is rather protracted, but it retains a light weight that keeps it from being overwhelming or unwieldy in hand. Perhaps most eye-catching thing about this design is the warm color palette it displays, the bright hues of the stummel's tanblast merging with the cream hues of the Bakelite mouthpiece for a stylish and inviting presentation.
