Pete Prevost: Sandblasted Billiard with Cocobolo Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-532-0086
Artisan pipe maker and President of BriarWorks, Pete Prevost has been making pipes for over 15 years after enjoying a career as the lead guitarist for Sanctus Real. In his early years as a pipe maker, he received guidance from iconic carvers Jody Davis, Todd Johnson, and Bruce Weaver, and today, Prevost is among North America's finest and most respected artisan pipe makers. His design sensibilities often prioritize impressively petite pipes, ranging from stout Nosewarmers to slight and slender featherweights — all imbued with the meticulous engineering and pristine finishing work of a veteran pipe maker.
Exemplifying Prevost's signature shaping style, this Billiard measures less than four-and-a-half inches in length and weighs just 21 grams. It's of ideal pocket-pipe dimensions for a short, on-the-go smoke, yet it lacks nothing in regard to elegant shaping and handsome aesthetics. A classic shape, the Billiard can sometimes be rendered with a strong sense of stolid rigidity, but in this version, every line is soft and gentle, the shank easily transitioning into the upright bowl free of any harshness. The shank's oval cross-section enhances the form's gentle disposition and emphasizes the bowl's height up front, maintaining a sleek overall profile. Apart from the smooth rim, the stummel is dressed in a rustic sandblast, and the hand-cut stem features an accent of cocobolo — the wood's dual tones offering a distinctive and naturalistic contrast. -Truett Smith
