Pete Prevost: Sandblasted Pear Tobacco Pipe

While Pete Prevost crafts a wide variety of different shapes, he tends to prioritize the compact and muscular aesthetic of the North American tradition, as evidenced by this Pear design. Measuring less than five inches long, this piece boasts a reserved footprint, but it packs a wealth of substance into the space available, offering a dense, brawny stummel and a sturdy in-hand presence. Up front, a plump bowl stands atop a lifted heel and grows trim walls that flare up to a rounded rim. Said bowl is situated at the fore of an ovoid shank that sweeps out of a wide transition before joining a demurely curved saddle stem. A crisp ridgeline flanks one side of the shank, creating a teardrop-shaped shank face and lending a touch of structure to the shape's otherwise curvaceous profile. A rugged sandblast adds further texture to the composition and highlights lively grain throughout the stummel.
