Peterson: Flame Grain Silver Cap (X220) Fishtail
Product Number: 002-029-44120
The "X220" bent Billiard features some of Peterson's classic shaping cues, such as a thick shank and hearty proportions, but it substitutes a bowl that tapers subtly toward the rim in place of one marked by the Irish marque's conventionally upright and tubular aesthetic. It's a considerably robust, full-bodied take on the timeless form and is among the largest of Peterson's bent Billiard renditions. That said, while the bold shaping results in a handful of briar, such boldness and substance is balanced out by a generously bent shank and stem combination.
This particular one is featured in the esteemed Flame Grain series, denoted by the well arranged grain orientation. The designation represents one of Peterson's highest grades, and in this example streaks of vertical grain run across the entire right flank, brought out by a smoky, black walnut contrast stain. The finish draws attention to the the silver cap and accent band, fashioned by the Sallynoggin factory's expert silversmiths, each one having spent years of mentorship underneath Peterson's senior craftsmen. The metal provides a formal, austere presentation, and the cap also protects the rim from charring.-Jeffery Sitts
