Peterson: Kapp Royal (D16) Fishtail
Product Number: 002-029-44239
The "D16" bent Dublin is one of Peterson's more classically English-styled shapes. It forgoes the Irish marque's signature style of robust proportions, trading their oft-seen muscular shank and transition for a more slender, sinuous form. The bowl flicks upward from out of the heel and flares conservatively toward the rim to maintain Peterson's cylindrical, tube-like aesthetic. Certainly a shape worthy of consideration for those drawn to Peterson's historic reputation and who want a more streamlined shape chart standard.
Like the Rosslare lines, Peterson's Kapp Royal series pairs the Irish marque's popular shapes with sterling silver mounts and stems of vivid, amber-hued acrylic. It's a throwback to a 1960's and 1970's series and pays homage to the Kapp family, émigrés from Germany who opened a pipe shop in Dublin in 1874 and for whom Latvian immigrant Charles Peterson worked as a craftsman. Through this partnership was born Kapp & Peterson — now known and beloved across the pipesmoking world as simply Peterson. The Kapp Royal line is marked by a smooth, mahogany finish, Peterson's signature, in-house silverwork, and sunny stems to emulate the vintage look of amber, making for a bright and striking aesthetic.-Truett Smith
