Peterson: Kapp Royal (999) Fishtail
Product Number: 002-029-49112
Defined by a Bulldog bowl and round shank, the Rhodesian is a classic shape that's enjoyed a place on traditional pipe charts for well over a century. On Peterson's chart, the age-old form is designated as the "999," showcasing everything pipesmokers love about the traditional shape — hard lines around the bowl; a tapering rim; and a stout, muscular disposition in hand — while also boasting the Irish marque's conventional shaping cues. The bowl tapers above and below the design's defining beadlines, while the rim barely rises above the transition thanks to the extra heft lent to the shank — a signature stylistic element of Peterson.
Like the Rosslare lines, Peterson's Kapp Royal series pairs the Irish marque's popular shapes with sterling silver mounts and stems of vivid, amber-hued acrylic. It's a throwback to a 1960's and 1970's series and pays homage to the Kapp family, émigrés from Germany who opened a pipe shop in Dublin in 1874 and for whom Latvian immigrant Charles Peterson worked as a craftsman. Through this partnership was born Kapp & Peterson — now known and beloved across the pipesmoking world as simply Peterson. The Kapp Royal line is marked by a smooth, mahogany finish, Peterson's signature, in-house silverwork, and sunny stems to emulate the vintage look of amber, making for a bright and striking aesthetic.-Truett Smith
