Peterson: Flame Grain (68) P-Lip
Product Number: 002-029-49134
One of Peterson's more classically English shapes, the "68" bent Brandy serves as a curvaceous sibling to the "69" bent Billiard. The "68" features less of the Irish marque's signature style of stout shanks and hearty transitions, instead placing more emphasis on the bowl, with the rounded base and slight taper toward the rim softening the profile. The added briar at the base makes for a substantial in hand feel, and the tapering rim, stretching transition, and comparatively slender shank conform well to wrapped fingers. Fitted on the end of a lithe bend, it's a piece that's comfortable no matter how you choose to hold it, catering well to all smoking postures.
Peterson's esteemed Flame Grain series consists of pipes crafted from select quality briar, carefully chosen for their choice grain orientation. The designation represents one of Peterson's highest grades, and in this example the lively array of grain is brought out by a smoky, black walnut contrast stain. The darker finish is paired to a jet-black stem, drawing focus to the sterling silver accent band around the shank. Peterson is renowned for their silver work, each accoutrement handcrafted by one of the Sallynoggin factory's expert silversmiths. The combination of superlative grain and esteemed silverwork make this Flame Grain piece a perfect example of one of Peterson's higher-tiered offerings.-Jeffery Sitts
