Peterson: Kapp Royal (80s) Fishtail
Product Number: 002-029-50191
Peterson's "80S" is a muscular take on the classic bent Bulldog, featuring the Irish marque's penchant for robust, stout proportions with its thick, sturdy shank bearing almost as much visual weight as the bowl. In a way, it's a diamond-shanked companion to the Irish marque's signature "999" Rhodesian, both designs featuring a squat bowl, the same low-slung disposition, and a set of beadlines around their tapered rims just above the tight transition. The "80S" also serves as a bent alternative to Peterson's "150" straight Bulldog for smokers who prefer a downturned stem for easy clenching, yet prefer the masculine look and feel of such a timeless design and the iconic Peterson aesthetic.
Like the Rosslare lines, Peterson's Kapp Royal series pairs the Irish marque's popular shapes with sterling silver mounts and stems of vivid, amber-hued acrylic. It's a throwback to a 1960's and 1970's series and pays homage to the Kapp family, émigrés from Germany who opened a pipe shop in Dublin in 1874 and for whom Latvian immigrant Charles Peterson worked as a craftsman. Through this partnership was born Kapp & Peterson — now known and beloved across the pipesmoking world as simply Peterson. The Kapp Royal line is marked by a smooth, mahogany finish, Peterson's signature, in-house silverwork, and sunny stems to emulate the vintage look of amber, making for a bright and striking aesthetic.-Jeffery Sitts
