Peterson: Dublin Filter Rusticated (68) Fishtail (9mm) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-029-56624
One of Peterson's more classically English shapes, the "68" bent Brandy serves as a curvaceous sibling to the "69" bent Billiard. The "68" features less of the Irish marque's signature style of stout shanks and hearty transitions, instead placing more emphasis on the bowl, with the rounded base and slight taper toward the rim softening the profile. The added briar at the base makes for a substantial in hand feel, and the tapering rim, stretching transition, and comparatively slender shank conform well to wrapped fingers. Fitted on the end of a lithe bend, it's a piece that's comfortable no matter how you choose to hold it, catering well to all smoking postures.
Peterson has offered a line of filtered pipes since 1947, evolving over the decades in name and finish. It's remained consistent, though, since 1997 as the Dublin Filter series — each pipe within the line being drilled to hold a 9mm filter, (Peterson's proprietary charcoal filters being offered in packs of 150 and 40 count boxes). Often, when a marque features filtered versions of their standard shapes, certain designs must be slightly altered to accommodate wider drilling; however, Peterson's signature aesthetic hews toward more robust shanks and transitions, making for a seamless cross-over between filtered and non-filtered renditions of the same shape. Presented in a rugged, dark-stained rustication, with lighter hues flecking the texture's peaks to match twin nickel accent rings, the Dublin Filter line displays a handsome aesthetic that remains both striking and traditionally reserved.-Jeffery Sitts
