Peterson: Tyrone (X220) Fishtail Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-029-66987
The "X220" bent Billiard features some of Peterson's classic shaping cues, such as a thick shank and hearty proportions, but it substitutes a bowl that tapers subtly toward the rim in place of one marked by the Irish marque's conventionally upright and tubular aesthetic. It's a considerably robust, full-bodied take on the timeless form and is among the largest of Peterson's bent Billiard renditions. That said, while the bold shaping results in a handful of briar, such boldness and substance is balanced by a generously bent shank and stem combination.
First released in the early 1990s, Peterson's Tyrone series was named for County Tyrone in Northern Ireland, a historical region originally called Tír Eoghan, "Land of Eoghan" in the Irish language. The Tryone line was discontinued in the early '00s, but Peterson resurrected the series in 2021 with modern appointments and a fresh finish. Like the originals, new Tyrone pipes bear a smooth finish and trim brass accents but trade the earlier version's walnut stain for the Irish marque's dark and smoky Heritage finish. Like Peterson's Aran Smooth and Killarney series, the Tyrone offers pipes in a smooth finish and distinctive, traditional color palette at an accessible price, but is distinguished from the chestnut stain of the Aran and the Red and Ebony versions of the nickel-accented Killarney. Beautifully alluring and with just the right balance of refined class and understated elegance, this Peterson Tyrone pipe is perfect for those interested in a reserved and traditional finish at a wallet-friendly price.
