Peterson: Short Rusticated (80s) Fishtail Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-029-84084
Peterson's "80s" is a muscular take on the classic bent Bulldog, featuring the Irish marque's penchant for robust, stout proportions with its thick, sturdy shank bearing almost as much visual weight as the bowl. In a way, it's a diamond-shanked companion to the Irish marque's signature "999" Rhodesian, both designs featuring a squat bowl, the same low-slung disposition, and a set of beadlines around their tapered rims just above the tight transition. The "80s" also serves as a bent alternative to Peterson's "150" straight Bulldog for smokers who prefer a downturned stem for easy clenching, yet prefer the masculine look and feel of such a timeless design and the iconic Peterson aesthetic.
The brainchild of Glen Whelan, Peterson's Director of Sales, the Shorts line features nine popular Peterson shapes with abbreviated shanks and vulcanite fishtail stems. The Nosewarmer proportions, combined with the Irish marque's robust shaping style, hearken back to early 20th century pipe design, providing a vintage aesthetic reminiscent of old-school Peterson pipes. Furthermore, each piece is accented by a broad band of sterling silver — the factory's smiths having earned a prestigious reputation for stunning silverwork over the decades. The flashy accoutrement provides a regal contrast against the dark-stained rustication seen here, presenting a pocket-friendly pipe that doesn't lack in eye-catching appeal.-Truett Smith
