Brad Pohlmann: Sandblasted Apple with Horn
Product Number: 002-381-0124
It may be one of Brad's more conservative shapes, but this straight Apple is by no means any less striking for its minimalist approach. The careful balance of soft, supple curves along the bowl's low-set waistline and gentle taper up to the rim with the firmer, harder lines of the shank and stem just works in a composition like this, with one naturally accentuating and playing off the other. Keeping the form simple of line and distribution of visual weight also allows Brad to focus on showcasing the briar itself — in this case, that meant coaxing out some seriously impressive ring grain and flame alike through a combination of sandblast and contrast stain. Fittingly Pohlmann added the finishing touch with a horn inlay into the saddle stem itself, setting off the composition with a neat, pastoral charm. Beautiful piece.
