Radice: Rind Billiard Tobacco Pipe

After a long stint working at Castello for Carlo Scotti, Luigi Radice left and formed the Caminetto brand with Guiseppe Ascorti, who he worked with at Castello. In 1980, Luigi went on to found his own brand, Radice, which has become well-renowned in Italy for its high quality pipes. This Billiard from Radice utilizes standard neoclassical shaping cues to evoke a thoroughly Italian style. Translucent and amber-hued, with darker swirls of yellow ochre, the acrylic stem is short, swiftly tapering to its bit. The stem's concision underscores the stummel's muscularity, a feature born of a thick transition and the bowl's wide base. A wide heel juts forward, its flat surface providing a convenient place to rest the pipe upright. From this pronounced heel, the bowl's walls form a shallow taper into the rim. A dark, ruby-hued stain dresses the rusticated stummel, providing a shadowy contrast to the stem's brighter hues.
