Randy Wiley: Feather Canadian (77) Tobacco Pipe

While Randy Wiley often gravitates toward classic shapes, the Canadian is one we rarely see from the American carver, yet he has pulled off a beautiful rendition with this offering. With its poised, cylindrical bowl, well-defined transition, and lengthy stretch of lenticular shank and tapered bit, this is a fairly straightforward take on the traditional Canadian. The chamber is generously deep, offering ample room for your favorite blends and is surrounded by stout insulating walls. Rather than rusticating this piece, Randy has opted instead for a feather carving, one of his signature finishing techniques. It's one small feather along the shank's underside, unnoticeable unless being looked for, and very tastefully carved. It was a wise creative decision since the bowl displays some lovely grain patterns, its warm stain nicely complemented by the horn-hued acrylic stem.
