Rinaldo: Lithos Bent Apple Sitter (YYY) (Megas)
Product Number: 002-031-0654
While the Rinaldo workshop is known for producing large, palm-filling briars in the typical Italian neoclassical style, those pieces that bear their "Megas" stamp are among the largest of their work. This bent Apple is one such piece, and it offers some stout, muscular proportions, with the broad, forward-ebbing bowl situated above a firm, flattened heel. The bow's slanted rim favors the fore dramatically over the aft and lends the piece a sense of implied momentum. The heel recedes slightly at the fore of the bowl, which further compounds the aforementioned visual momentum of the piece and offers a disjointed appearance in profile. The shank kicks high out of the transition before giving way to a saddle stem of dark amber acrylic making a steep downturn for a relaxed smoking posture. The stummel wears a bright, orange-hued rendition of the Lithos rustication, providing the bowl and shank with plenty of craggy texture to delight the fingers. The rim and a trim band at the shank end have been left smooth and stained a light, mahogany color for a touch of contrast.--Davin Hylton
