Rinaldo: Collection Blowfish (1) Tobacco Pipe

According to our extensive archives, this Blowfish is the very first we've received from the accomplished Rinaldo brothers, making it a most welcome addition to our site. The shape itself was made popular in Denmark decades ago after being originally designed by Lars Ivarsson, and has been fashioned numerous times since, mostly by Danish artisans.

This Collection Blowfish is an impressive rendition, full of supple curves and appropriate asymmetry. The bowl is plump and Apple-like, with the form's iconic, curving ridgeline winding around the bowl, creating its disc-like panel along the right flank before continuing through the heel and faceted shank. It's topped by a slender, fishtail stem, at the base of which is an expansion ring that mirrors the irregularly shaped accent at the shank end in a continuation of rhythm. This piece is not quite compact per se but is of a moderate size and offers a good bit of chamber breadth and depth, with an easy, comfortable fit in hand. The Rinaldos have dressed it in a warm auburn contrast stain, drawing out stellar birdseye along the base and shank top, while tight-knit tendrils of flame grain ascend to the rim.
