Rinaldo: Triade Volcano with Silver (1) (YY) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-031-0777
Elio and Guido Rinaldo have been making pipes together since 1974, getting their start in one of Pesaro's major workshops before establishing their own brand, Rinaldo, in 1987. To this day, every pipe produced by the workshop is crafted solely by the two brothers, with the utmost attention paid to every aspect of the pipes' performance and comfort, both in hand and between the teeth. This Volcano is an excellent example of the latter, with a striking and poised S-curve throughout that lends the composition a great posture for jaw-hanging. A consistent undercurve further highlights this, made possible by briar pushing out at the heel from a base further above at the bowl, marked by a crisp ridgeline that additionally denote the walls' forward-urging taper to the rim. Dressed in a smooth finish and stained a honeyed blonde, this Triade piece reveals some dense streaks of flame grain all around the bowl, a silver band at the junction adding contrast and elegance.-John McElheny
