Rossi: Notte (8614) Tobacco Pipe

Rossi's "8614" is the Italian marque's most deeply bent shape, resembling the classic Oom Paul and corresponding to Savinelli's "614" design. The shank curls upward, almost vertically, making for a compact length that hangs comfortably from the jaw, and the stretched heel and rounded Billiard bowl sit naturally in hand. Aligning more with traditional English proportions, the shank and transition are on the stouter end compared to some of Rossi's Italian neoclassic shapes — an excellent choice for those interested in an Italian-made, hands-free smoker but desire a form of more English sensibilities.

Introduced to Rossi's portfolio in 2019, the Notte series presents an alluring palette of dark, stormy hues. Meaning "night" in Italian, the Notte offers an aptly dark aesthetic, pairing a smoky, smooth stain with a jet-black acrylic mouthpiece — a trim brass accent ring adding just a touch of brightness, like a sliver of moon at midnight. The stain, while dark, still reveals the briar's natural grain on this piece, emulating the look of swirling clouds within a night's black sky for a powerful and mysterious disposition.
