Ryan Alden: Partially Sandblasted Volcano with Amboyna Burl Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-777-0002
Ryan Alden has long held a fascination for natural materials, preferring to work with a range of exotic hardwoods and organic mediums like horn or antler for any accents on his pipes. It's no surprise then that his entry in our 2017 American pipemaking showcase would also follow this natural approach — fitting this tightly-curled, Nautilus-like Volcano with a unique split stem design composed of finely patterned cumberland set into a rounded base of fiery amboyna burl. Together with the subtle ruby hues of the smoldering sandblast, the resulting palette at play is one of natural, earthy warmth, lending the composition at large a rather charming and pastoral disposition. Great piece from Ryan, here.
