Ryan Alden: Sandblasted Morta Bent Apple with Bakelite (Queen of Hearts) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-777-0031
This is a pipe full of firsts for Ryan Alden. Not only is it one of several pieces in this update that are Alden's first to feature stems fully fashioned from bakelite, but this particular bent Apple is also the very first morta pipe we've received from the Texas-based artisan. Stylistically, it fits into Ryan's traditional aesthetic and compact style, presenting an affably rotund bent Apple in a plump yet pocketable package. It measures in at under four and a half inches in length, but the bulbous waistline and thick insulating walls fill the palm comfortably and heartily. Perfect for such a shape, the sandblasted morta displays the dense material's unique grain pattern for a stimulating, striated texture that's a delight in hand. With a muted, jet-black hue, the morta pairs handsomely with the Kelly green, bakelite stem and shank end accent. It's a piece that beautifully marries old-school shaping with a modern touch of alternate materials and contrasting color palette. Impressive work from Alden.
