Ryan Alden: Sandblasted Nosewarmer Billiard with Boxwood (Jack of Diamonds)
Product Number: 002-777-0042
While Ryan Alden is no stranger to classic Billiard designs, his style typically falls within traditional English shaping cues. This piece, however, has strong leanings toward the Danish school — most apparent in the soft taper of the bowl, gently inflated rim, and the combination of light-depth sandblast and contrast-stained, smooth polished rim. Adding his own creative take, though, Alden has used the lines of the shank to create the bowl's forward cant, the shank flaring in profile toward the transition and the bottom lined continuing its slant into the heel to provide the bowl with a stronger sense of forward tilt. Weighing in at under 32 grams and with barely four inches of total length, this is a tried and true nosewarmer, easily slipped into a pocket and clenched hands free. It doesn't skimp on chamber size, though, or presentation, being handsomely accented with a trim ferrule of boxwood at the base of the saddle stem.-Truett Smith
