Ryan Alden: Sandblasted Lovat with Boxwood (Jack of Diamonds)
Product Number: 002-777-0054
A beautiful complement to a Lovat we previously saw from Ryan Alden, this piece displays the American artisan's love for classic shapes, rendered in bold, traditional style. Like the other rendition, this Lovat hews closer to Danish shaping cues compared to Alden's more English-style variants. Such influence is most noticeable in the bowl — the heel is slightly lifted and rounded along the bowl, giving way to a steady taper toward the rim. Here, then, Ryan has softly inflated rim, staining it smooth and ruby-tinged to accent the dark sandblast of the rest of the stummel. Adding further to the color palette, he's adorned the stem base with boxwood, complementing the composition and likening it even more to the prior piece, though this one showcases a broader piece of the piece of the pale hardwood.-Truett Smith
