Ryan Alden: Sandblasted Lovat (King of Clubs) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-777-0088
Continuing his penchant for English classics, Ryan Alden presents us with this gorgeous Lovat. At about a Group 5 size, it's a hearty pipe that would easily find a home in the catalog of some early 20th century English marque; however, the overall length remains modest and makes for a light weight that belies the chamber depth. The bowl is bold and palm-filling, housing a generous chamber and further emphasized by the comparatively more slender shank-and-stem combination. In a neat, artistic touch, Alden has gradually tapered the shank from transition to end. Such a feature accentuates the bowl and does well to define its subtle forward cant while also softening the lines of the profile. Fitted with an abbreviated cumberland stem, the warm hues of the vulcanite transition beautifully into the deep, hickory stain and echo the red-brown hues at the smooth-polished rim. Defined by sweeping, slanted bands of of growth rings, the sandblast is consistent and delightful, making this an excellent addition to any collection of pipe chart standards.-Truett Smith
