Ryan Alden: Smooth Natural Bent Apple (Ace of Spades)

Product Number: 002-777-0093

Ryan Alden doesn't finish many of his pipes smooth, being highly selective for just the right block of briar. The American artisan found one such block in this bent Apple, displaying gorgeous flame grain across the bowl, with the underside studded in a sea of birdseye. The specific bent Apple shape is also something of an outlier compared to Alden's other renditions: The overall shaping is still traditional like many of his pieces, but the bent is significantly deeper, doing well to balance out the stummel's robustness. Gently rounded just below the bowl's low-set waistline, the heel sweeps into the upward-curling shank which maintains the bowl's stoutness into the tapered stem. Said stem complements the briar's natural finish, being composed of fiery-hued, brindled vulcanite for a vibrant and modern color palette across the otherwise quite classic shape.
