While Ryan Alden tends to craft pipes that emulate the old Anglo-French classics, this Volcano by the Texas-based carver appears Danish in execution, possessing a dynamic, active outline. Said outline is marked by a continuous ridgeline that frames the base of the stummel and comes to a sharp point at the bowl's fore. As is traditional for the form, the bowl stands atop a wide base and grows thick walls that swiftly taper to a taut rim. The shank mirrors the bowl, possessing an outline and build that resembles a Reuleaux triangle, its sharpened base juxtaposed against the upper section's rounded curves. A band of horn accents the aforementioned shank's face, its dark complexion complementing the stummel and the vulcanite saddle stem. A smoky smooth finish completes the ensemble and highlights gorgeous grain throughout the stummel.
