Sabina Santos: Smooth Rhodesian with Fordite Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-817-0001
The traditional Rhodesian is a simple shape: a softly-rounded bowl, high-set bead line, and rounded shank. A Bulldog, but without the structural diamond shank that sets the piece apart. Here, Sabina Santos has taken a different approach to the shape. A broad bowl wears a low-set ridge rather than the usual, high-set bead lines, giving a steep taper to rim, as well as a low-slung appearance overall. The shank is similarly sleek, low but broad, and lenticular enough to create ridge-lines that trail the length of the piece before melting easily into the transition. The whole thing has been finished in a warm, walnut stain and accented by a band of Fordite sourced from the United States, its light-and-dark striations echoing the appearance of grain around the bowl.
