Sabina Santos: Smooth Reverse Calabash Bent Dublin Tobacco Pipe

Sabina Santos has an eye for these asymmetrical shapes, each one being more impressive than the last. Here, a compact bent Dublin is lined with crisp edges, framing the grain of the piece and creating an asymmetric appearance to the bowl when viewed from above — though it does not seem to translate into any discomfort in hand. Even with its thick, Reverse Calabash shank, it's a comfortable piece, and evenly balanced throughout. It's been finished in a warm, dark contrast stain, which has brought out a wealth of flame around the bowl and shank alike, while the underside boasts a tight sea of birdseye, accented by a small oval of plateau that has been left in its craggy texture. Quite the charming piece.
