Sabina Santos: Sandblasted Apple with Horn
Product Number: 002-817-0029
Rendered in nosewarmer dimensions, this Apple from Sabina Santos is a charmingly compact rendition of a shape we don't often see from the Portuguese artisan. It readily showcases the influence Danish pipe design has on her style, especially the work of Hans "Former" Nielsen, who she notably studied under during her visits to Denmark. From the light-depth sandblast to the smooth, softly rounded rim and horn mount, this piece is steeped in Danish tradition and is a stunning example of Sabina's stylistic range. Along with the undulating grain patterns unveiled by the sandblast, I'm quite fond of the horn accent on this piece. Its ebony hues pair nicely with the stummel's dark coloration, while the lighter, creamy tones offer a tasteful hint of contrast. The smooth rim's auburn hue offers additional contrast and caters well to conventional Danish style, while remaining recognizable as Sabina's work.- Jeffery Sitts
