Sabina Santos: Sandblasted Natural Art Deco Dublin with Mammoth (G) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-817-0055
Inspired by her husband's pipe smoking, Sabina Santos took to pipe making as a way to express her creative side in a unique way. She worked mostly on her own to refine her skills, with a few trips here and there to study at the workshops of Danish masters like Tom Eltang, Kai Nielsen, Tao, Former, and Kurt Balleby. Overtime, her talent bloomed, and she now enjoys a global following that admires her work for its gorgeous shaping, immaculate finishing, and expert engineering.
This Dublin is a brilliant showcase of Santos' style. The bowl here is quite wide and muscular, its thick insulating walls rising in a dramatic flare from the heel to the wide rim. Additionally, the bowl displays a subtle forward cant that adds a touch of dynamism to the overall form's silhouette. The oval shank that ebbs from the low-set transition keeps the pipe looking rather sleek, its reduced diameter accentuating the bowl's visual heft and forward-drive. The aforementioned rim has been capped with a broad portion of mammoth, and its complexion and creamy tones harmonize beautifully with the stummel's warm tanblast. The tanblast draws out some rippling growth rings across the bowl's flanks and highlights a sea of crisp birdseye along the top of the shank.
