Sam Adebayo: Smooth Bent Apple with Bakelite Tobacco Pipe

Plump of bowl and sinuous of shank, this bent Apple from Sam Adebayo has some Danish softness to its form, boosted by a lifting gesture to its heel and a bit of space at the transition. The real star here is his eye for grain, however, the left flank and fore of this pipe absolutely replete with tight whorls of birdseye, and a line of cross-grain neatly arranged at the right flank's edge. The contrast finish highlights all of this in warm tones, their golden highlights pairing nicely with the striking blue mouthpiece that has been used, made of vintage Bakelite. It's not the first Danish-inspired piece we've seen from Sam, but it does offer a rather more low-slung and sinuous form than his more deeply rounded pieces.
