Sam Adebayo: Smooth Bent Apple with Horn

Product Number: 002-750-0046

Sam Adebayo's shaping style showcases the combination of robust proportions and elegant curves that are often seen within American artisan pipe making. The aesthetic is grounded in Danish style but with more focus attended to muscularity and boldness, and it's manifested well on this bent Apple from Sam. The bowl is affably plump and squat, its thick insulating walls making for a chamber that's on par with Group 2 Billiard dimensions. Aesthetically, it's reminiscent of this bent Egg we previously received from the American carver — boasting the same style of subdued, walnut stain; generous horn accent; and sinuous, slightly forward-urging profile. In this piece, however, Adebayo has neatly tapered the end of the horn, after its flare, leading the eye into the base of the saddle stem which is comprised of a trim expansion ring. Such design cues offer subtle firmness to the composition, juxtaposed against the stummel's voluptuous curves and plump in-hand appeal. Furthermore, the grain here is spectacular, Sam having well-oriented the cross grain to make the most of flanks populated with dense birdseye.
