Sam Adebayo: Smooth Acorn with Bakelite Tobacco Pipe

This Acorn beautifully showcases Sam Adebayo's ability to balance the precise line work and elegant curves associated with Danish pipe making with the robust proportions and extra visual heft of American design. Like many of Adebayo's shapes, this piece is a compact design, with a total length of less than four and a half inches. That being said, while it boasts a reserved footprint, the overall form is dense and muscular, offering a broad, full-bodied bowl and an equally brawny shank. Said bowl flares from its slightly pointed heel to its broad, plateau-crowned rim, and as it expands, the chamber's walls take on a unique lopsidedness that's vaguely reminiscent of the Blowfish shape. Of course, being an Adebayo pipe, this piece is fitted to a stem of vibrant Bakelite, its bright complexion matching the stummel's warm stain. A glossy smooth finish further elevates the composition and highlights an abundance of flame grain and birdseye throughout the stummel.
