Smio Satou: Smooth Bent Dublin Sitter with Tsuishu
Product Number: 002-142-0433
Though it's a fair bet that just about any batch of briars we receive from Smio Satou will contain some variation of the Dublin shape, it's how the carver opts to present the form that often makes for a subject of interest. Here, he chose to go a slightly more understated route with this Sitter, shifting the geometry forward a touch about the bowl and softening the sense of inflation at the rim to make for a gentle convexity. This is juxtaposed with a more tightly-flared shank, the likes of which terminate in a broad shank face kissed with a touch of dark-stained plateau. From here, the carver opted for an affably downturned stem imbued with a gorgeous tsuishu accent at the base, lending the composition a neat touch of color. Finished in a warm, honey-blonde contrast coupled with Satou's signature urushi lacquer for added durability and lasting shine, it's as visually impressive as it is comforting in hand. Highly recommended.- Daniel Bumgardner
