Savinelli Autograph: Autograph Sandblasted Freehand (6mm) Tobacco Pipe

Savinelli's Autograph series comprises hand-made piece crafted from start to finish by one of the Italian marque's finest artisans, their freedom from the shape chart allowing for some truly imaginative pieces, such as this Freehand. Immediately I am reminded of the Urn or Cauldron shape here, as there is a clear resemblance at the bowl, with a plump, rounded lower half , followed by a distinct pinch at the midsection before the top half flares into a dramatic, plateau-crowned rim. The aft of this lower portion additionally features some firmness about its widest point, providing a good index for the fingers and lending the shape some subtle, interesting detail. The transition is wide, leading to a stretch of slightly upturned shank before it meets the trim saddle stem which is downturned for a comfortable smoking posture. Dressing the pipe here is a warm auburn-mahogany sandblast which reveals a lovely ring grain pattern rippling around the bowl, making for a distinctive, attractive piece.
