Savinelli's Autograph is the Italian marque's limited-production, handmade series, utilizing specially aged extra-extra plateau briar and being crafted by only three of the brand's most experienced carvers. From start to finish, the process of crafting a single one of these pipes is handled by a single one of these veteran craftsmen, the series providing them with design freedom and allowing them to express their personal creativity. This organic Cherrywood boasts a full-bodied bowl that stands atop a flattened heel, its walls flaring out, Dublin-like to a domed rim while canting forward dynamically out of the tight transition. The shank seems to distinguish itself from the bowl like the branch of a tree, the same organism, but gaining life and will of its own as it grows further from the trunk, its bulbous shaping balancing the visual weight a bit. The light smooth finish provides understated elegance, as does the gently bent jet-black acrylic stem that tops the composition, for a timeless piece that will elevate any collection.
