Savinelli Autograph: Autograph Smooth Freehand (6) (6mm) Tobacco Pipe

Savinelli's Autograph is the Italian marque's limited-production, handmade series, utilizing specially aged extra-extra plateau briar and being crafted by only three of the brand's most experienced carvers. From start to finish, the process of crafting a single one of these pipes is handled by a single one of these veteran craftsmen, the series providing them with design freedom and allowing them to express their personal creativity. This Freehand is a striking piece from the line, pairing a sculptural, Horn-like stummel to a remarkable, demi-Churchwarden stem that's subtly bent for comfortable smoking. The stummel boasts a continuous expansion from the shank to the rim, and it makes a fluid, arcing curve throughout, the briar curling and rising to a domed rim that's chamfered into the chamber. The lifting shaping creates a handsomely dynamic silhouette, with the underside lined by a craggy pattern of plateau that adds plenty of texture to appreciate. Dressed in a warm, light stain, the briar showcases plenty of handsome grain, with flame lining the flanks of the stummel and ample birdseye across the bottom.
