Savinelli's Autograph is the Italian marque's limited-production, handmade series, utilizing specially aged extra-extra plateau briar and being crafted by only three of the brand's most experienced carvers. From start to finish, the process of crafting a single one of these pipes is handled by a single one of these veteran craftsmen, the series providing them with design freedom and allowing them to express their personal creativity. Made with aged briar that Savinelli has designated as "Legacy Stock," This bent Billiard is an impressively balanced take on the shape from the Italian brand, the presence of its bowl nicely offset by the shank and stem combination out back. Said shank and stem lift from a wide transition, the shank taking on an easy taper toward a broad silver band at the junction, the stem's base continuing this taper before slipping into an eye-catching half-saddle arrangement. Up front, the bowl stands on a rounded heel and grows tall walls that take on a subtle bit of taper to the chamfered rim, overlooking a capacious chamber for leisurely smoking sessions. Finished in a crisp, inky sandblast, the stummel showcases handsome grain, with plenty of contrast offered by the silver accent band.
