Savinelli Autograph: Autograph Smooth Freehand (4) (6mm) Tobacco Pipe

Savinelli's Autograph is the Italian marque's limited-production, handmade series, utilizing specially aged extra-extra plateau briar and being crafted by only three of the brand's most experienced carvers. From start to finish, the process of crafting a single one of these pipes is handled by a single one of these veteran craftsmen, the series providing them with design freedom and allowing them to express their personal creativity. A decidedly Volcano-like Freehand, this piece from the brand features a broad, domed base surrounding the bottom of its bowl, one shaped in a unique half oval that flattens the fore wall a bit while lending the aft wall a broad, arcing curl that flows from the base to the fore of the rim. The fore wall is also pinched and lined at the flanks with ridges, firming up the look of this pipe significantly and holding the visual weight squarely at the bowl. Out back, a short shank lifts out from a raised transition and marries a slim, smartly curved saddle stem of black acrylic, poising this piece for comfortable smoking. Dresed in a warm, rich stain, the stummel showcases handsome grain, with ample birdseye across the underside.
