Starting in the 1920s "Eighty-eight" came into use as vernacular for happening nightclubs, derived from the 88 keys on a piano. In particular it referred to the, shall we say, out of the way hang-outs that flaunted the prohibition on alcoholic beverages, and thus were a good bet for attracting the livelier clientele and entertainments.
For their 88 series, Savinelli has dished out a bevy of all-new designs, each with a shape number ending in "88", and each hand-shaped to serve as a sitter. In the "188", we find a smooth and rather streamlined take on the generously proportioned Italian Billiard.
